Hills Today CP and i, went to buy some table tennis balls at the store. Wind was all blowing crazy in that apocalypticy kinda way.. storm clouds movin in fast. After scoring the balls, we split up. CP ran home and beat the rain, and i decided to go climb a huge nearby mountain in the rain. It was about 3 miles to the mountain, and the climb took a while, but once at the top, the veiw was so worth it.. could see the whole city, pretty wurbly moment, the kind most people would want to spend with a significant other or somethin.. on the way back down the mountain it began to rain.. i walked home in the rain and got totally drenched, the kind of moment most people do NOT want to share with anyone, because you are sad and bitter and would kill anyone who even tried to.. *oh.. uhm sorry* had a interesting discussion about friends. Are there such things as TRUE friends? i argued that the most basic human motivation is GREED, as an extended behaviour from the instinct of self preservation. therefore most friendships are based on self interests (at first) and therefore, should be addressed henceforth as ALLIANCES. people teaming up to improve eachothers situations, similar to the way a club, a city, or even a global society works. It was pointed out to me, however, that a true friend is one that makes a personal sacrifice, without expecting anything in return.. example, person jumps in way of bullet to save friend.. ect. this is where the rational mind is put aside in favor of the emotional bonds between people. then can these emotional bonds define friendship? or gauge it? How do we know when we are encountered with a true friend.. and how many people that we think are friends, are just involved with you out of self interest? Maybe we'll never know until someone shoots a bullet at us. -Locke Sunday, February 20, 2000
